It is a beautiful autumn day here in East Central Illinois. I made the call to drive in to the farmer’s market this morning, and I did not regret it. On Kristin’s recommendation, I hit the apple lady in aisle two. We now have a lineup of winesaps, jonathans, honeycrisps, and somelittle pink tart things sitting on the hutch. While at the market, I also got the best sausage, egg and cheese around from fryer tucks. I know, the name makes you doubt, but it is seriously good, and all parts, save the cheeze, come from the market.
The rest of the weekend plans include making a pie, cooking brisket, knitting on the mystery sock, and doing some quality manual labor on the porch floor. Nice balance.
And now, a bit about my new hat. It’s the wonderfully beautiful selbu modern, knit up in blue sky alpacas DK yarn. It is so, so soft, and it will keep my head nice and toasty this winter. I had gauge fail with this hat. I should have remembered that my gauge gets much bigger in stranded knitting. I tried it on when it was nearly done and had to admit that it was impossibly big. Drat. I ripped out the decreases, plus one pattern repeat, then started again immediately decreasing. The result is still a bit big, but totally wearable, and cute, I think.
